History Of CorelDRAW

CorelDRAW is a vector graphics editor developed and marketed by Corel Corporation of Ottawa, Canada. It is also the name of Corel's Graphics Suite, which bundles CorelDraw with a bitmap image editor, Corel PhotoPaint, and other graphics-related programs (see below). In 1987, Corel hired software engineers Michel Bouillon and Pat Beirne to develop a vector-based illustration program to bundle with their desktop publishing systems. That program, CorelDraw, was initially released in 1989.

CorelDraw 1.x and 2.x runs under Windows 2.x and 3.0. CorelDraw 3.0 came into its own with Microsoft's release of Windows 3.1. The inclusion of TrueType in Windows 3.1 transformed CorelDraw into a serious illustration program capable of using system-installed outline fonts without requiring third-party software such as Adobe Type Manager; paired with a photo editing program (PhotoPaint), a font manager and several other pieces of software, it was also part of the first all-in-one graphics suite.

Imagine how dull documents would be if text and graphics could never be combined in the same file. Or, if you could imaginatively draw shapes, or carefully create diagrams, but never with the same program. Such was life on the PC before CorelDRAW.

CorelDRAW took the computer graphics world by storm in 1989, introducing a full-color vector illustration and layout program—the first of its kind. Two years later, Corel revolutionized the industry again, introducing the first all-in-one graphics suite with version 3, which combined vector illustration, page layout, photo editing and much more in a single package.

More than 20 years later, CorelDRAW® Graphics Suite X6 continues the design momentum, unleashing its most powerful and robust version to date. It showcases an array of new features, design tools and templates to bring your designs to the forefront. Introducing a powerful new typography engine, versatile color harmony & style tools, improved performance with 64-bit and multi-core support, and a complete design-it-yourself website tool – all rich features that will enhance any design project.

This version still includes a wide range of file compatibility support for over 100 popular file formats and is optimized for the latest Windows® operating systems, continuing its global tradition as the leading choice for professional graphic design software.
